Oh, sister, when I come to knock on your door,
Don't turn away, you'll create sorrow.
Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore
You may not see me tomorrow.
Oh, Sister - Desire - 1976
Forgive and forget Bob tells us for you may not see me tomorrow. Time does go on forever but our time here is limited so why waste it on petty grudges and jealousy? I'd like to avoid the past but perhaps were doomed to do so, like F Scott Fitzgerald wrote in the closing line of his Great Gatsby.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Following the Dream
Well, I got a harmonica job, begun to play,
Blowin' my lungs out for a dollar a day.
I blowed inside out and upside down.
The man there said he loved m' sound,
He was ravin' about how he loved m' sound;
Dollar a day's worth.
-- Talkin' New York - Bob Dylan - 1962
Autobiographical account from Dylan of his first days in New York City. Though I guess it's meant to speak to how rough the scene was, I find the lyrics and idea romantic, the whole notion of following your dream through playing the dingy cellars and small cafes of downtown New York. Of course its easier to see it being romantic when you know Dylan would become one of the greatest musicians of all time but it seems Dylan knew he'd be big from the start. I hope to have the same courage of conviction someday.

Love Defined
Suddenly I turned around and she was standin there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair.
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns.
Come in, she said,
Ill give you shelter from the storm.
-- Shelter From the Storm - Blood on the Tracks - 1975
Well others might have their visions of love painted by Leonardo Da Vinci (or Walt Disney), I see in this stanza what I'm looking for in the women of my dreams. She comes out of nowhere but suddenly appears beautiful with silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair. She removes the pain of the world (the crown of thorns) and gives me shelter where I can always feel save and warm.
