You may be an ambassador to England or France,
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance,
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world,
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls
But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.
I'm sure many people take this in the religious sense or just in the general sense that everyone has a boss or someone they have to report to at the end of the day. This interpretation makes sense but not what I see. I think if we read deeper we see the idea that even those seemingly perfect people (the socialite with the pearls) in life are dealing with their own sets of demons.
Sometimes the world can seem overwhelming, especially when your someone who is very self-aware about their own weaknesses and shortcomings. But lets not forget the doctor, the lawyer, the businessman all have their demons too.
I think you nailed it, I disregard the fact it was written in his religious stage, this tune is a sociologists dream describing the social hierarchy of mankind ... and people say Illuminati is a conspiracy ; )
